Doubles has been neglected#549

Doubles has constantly had bugs and oversights plaguing it since launch, with even major issues being ignored for months at a time. Below is a list of all of the problems I know of in the current patch.

  • Lobbies can fill with an extra player because there is no check to make sure a lobby can support both players when they queue with a friend, as detailed in this post

  • Grabbed characters have a knockback resistance that prevents easy grab > strong attack cheese. This status does not persist into the grab release states, rendering it mostly pointless for players who know this.

  • There is no sound cue when a stock has been taken, making it easy to miss that you’re on your last stock when your teammate takes it.

  • When selecting random, the game will choose the singles versions of Tempest and Forest instead of the doubles variant.

  • The doubles version of Metal Graveyard extends too far into the foreground, obscuring the wall heavily as seen in the attached screenshots.

  • Stage striking breaks when there is a fifth player spectating a match (this applies to any lobby with 5+ players, but it is most prominent where doubles matches are being streamed) Clip

  • There is no way of knowing that putting all 4 players on the same team allows you to randomize the teams. Even if every player DOES know that, there is no way of communicating that people want to randomize the teams. There needs to be a system to vote to randomize teams, or at the VERY least a “Let’s go random teams!” emote and something in-game that tells you that you can do it.

  • On the topic of emotes, there is a complete lack of emotes for doubles players. Emotes like “Let’s switch teams”, “I’ll take point”, and “You can take my stock” would be HUGE for communicating in lobbies.

  • Persistent lobbies was an amazing change, but it had the side effect of making it impossible to use training mode once you found one opponent and youre still left waiting for two more. You should be able to 1v1 the person you matched with while you wait for the lobby to fill (or FFA if there’s 3 people).

  • Palettes are unusable in doubles. It would be really cool if we could have extra team colors like yellow or black team, but at the very least it would be good to be able to use palettes that already easily correlate to a team color (pink for red team, cool blue for blue team, etc.)

  • 25% is a fairly pitiful xp bonus that has no impact on queue activity. In conjunction with the extreme queue times, queuing doubles (or FFA) is a complete waste of time if you want to level up.

  • La Reina’s slam attacks are horrible in doubles. A previous patch gave them armor to prevent her from being hit out of them, but they still get parried for free, making them extremely punishable by the other opponent. La Reina is already bad in doubles, she doesnt need this handicap too.

If any of my fellow dubs enthusiasts can think of anything else, please comment.

Some of these are easy fixes and now planned (like the Doubles Metal Graveyard ledge issue) but some are bigger changes that I’m not sure when we will get time for (like Palettes and La Reina throw issues)

@Dan Fornace Thanks for the prompt response, I’m aware that a lot of these are more time consuming to change and I don’t expect to see them soon, but I’m glad they’re on the radar.

@Toastybob42 That is the correct post, thanks for linking it
