As frustrating as it is to have this happen, imagine all the ways this could be abused, not to mention the technical hurdle of synching this up between players.

This is simply not a thing you would like on online playing with randoms, 100% would be used to be annoying.
Tho it could be a neat QoL option during local play, tournament set ups sometimes miss with so many controlers changing in and out.
