The XP gain rate and coin gain rate in Rivals II is too slow. Straight up, it takes way too long in this game to make any progress with the currency, especially with the ever-expanding catalog of items.
(And this is coming from someone who purchased the $20 starter pack that increases the coin gain rate.)
There are ~55 paid bundles in the shop that require real money to purchase, and there are 650 (!!) individually purchasable cosmetics in the game… and counting.
It is not feasible for a player who wants to interact with the game’s cosmetics systems to be able to purchase items at even a semi-consistent rate. Saving up for one stage skin takes months. Not everyone has the time to be constantly pouring hours into Rivals II for one skin, or the money to be purchasing the bundles from the shop.
There are many ways to tackle this issue, but I will ask for these 3 specific changes:
1) The XP rate should be increased. Ideally to a rate similar to 2024’s XP rate.
2) The amount of coin rewards for level-ups to be substantially increased (ideally something like from 500 coins to 2,000 coins, for the event tracks and character level-ups).
3) Slots in the shop should be at least tripled. There are ~650 items in the catalog. There are 10 (sometimes 9) slots in the shop. Even when you account for items that are locked to the bucks shop, that is still way too low of a slot count for a catalog this massive.
The XP rate felt like triple of what it was now in 2024, before progression was kneecapped to be a slog. I do not understand why this was done. This game has, and I’m not even kidding, around 5% of the playerbase it once had. Of the people that are choosing to still stick around, why punish them like this?
It only makes sense to increase the Coin and XP gain rates. Across the board, for all modes. Doing so could help retain player interest and make the player feel like they are being rewarded and making progress, instead of feeling like the game is being stingy and holding back.
Don’t just take my word for it; take this person’s. I made a similar post on the previous board and a player responded with their own input. I’ve attached their comment as an image.
This player is a superfan and purchased EVERY bundle that included coins and bucks, has played over 900 hours, plays every day, plays mainly in casual (to understandably avoid the horrendously kneecapped XP rate in lobbies), played every event to level 100… and through all that, even THIS player recognizes there is a massive issue, as they still need around 3,000,000 (!!!!) coins to purchase everything that is left in the shop.
There is a big issue here, and if left unaddressed it will get even worse. I genuinely love Rivals II and I know the devs listen to player feedback and have the players’ interests in mind. Please increase the XP rate and coin rate.
TL;DR: The shop has so many items (over 650) and players have very limited means of obtaining items at even a semi-consistent rate. All these cosmetics are overpriced compared to how stingy the coin drops are.

I agree. If you play only lobbies, which my friends and I do, it is AWFUL. At the very least I would like that changed. I don’t understand why we are punished for playing in lobbies. It just makes my friends and I play less, not go play ranked or casuals at times we wouldn’t be playing together

I feel like getting every item via coin shop is a bit unrealistic.
That being said I do feel like the coin rate could be increased. They’ve already said that they intend to keep private server coin rates where they are for the most part, and I get that, it’s agood idea to get more people into queues.
I also think there need to be more ways to get casual queues filled, like it would be amazing if I could queue for 1v1 AND doubles AND free-for-all at the same time.

Lobbies should get normal XP 100%
Idk why the devs are scared of people farming in private lobbies like you can just AFK bot matches overnight.
Also make 2v2 / FFA have larger XP boosters, those modes are beyond dead at this point. You need a dedicated discord to play 2v2s lol.
And please just add an indicator to see which events we’ve completed in the event changer menu.
This needs to be fixed asap.
And pls don’t forget to adjust the local VS XP.
I host rivals 2 sessions once a week with my friends and one of them always picks clairen and makes sure she’s player one.
We’re playing thousands of doubles and she’s not even lvl 80 with her now. 😭
It’s so annoying that out of 4 players only one gets XP and it’s like 1/4th of the online mode (which isn’t even giving that much exp)
At this point it’s just demotivating.
I put a lot of money in this game and I love to support you and the work you put in this game. But PLEASE fix the local XP rates. You should be able to progress by playing locally.
Agreed, as another high-spender who loves the game and wants to support it, I have always felt that the exp and coin progression was WAY too slow. I honestly don’t know what you mean by reverting it to 2024 rates, the rate of gain was NEVER good lol. I should not have to grind for weeks and weeks to get a single common skin.
The fact that an exp booster was ever considered a good idea for something to sell to players is telling.

Maybe bi-daily sales on select items would be cool; Theyre not gonna increase coin gain, every nolt this is asked for and every nolt this is shot down

@Niadhgr You’re referring to the requests to increase coin gain in lobbies specifically. Those requests are shot down.
I’m not asking for increasing the coin gain in lobbies here, I’m asking for the coin gain to be increased in general.

I wasn’t even calculating “I MUST OWN EVERYTHING IN THE GAME” math. I was using those calculations to show just how ludcrious it is with the amount of coins needed to “sift” through items in 1 catergory of item slots + the cost of 1 another item type.
Reiterating that private lobbies gain is TERRIBLE. I don’t expect to own everything for free (but hey I did BUY the game) but even with purchases and 1200+ hours into the game where we only play private lobbies you barely can afford anything. I have never played a game for this long and have so little so show for it.

this, or cutting the price for items down significantly. make aether bucks worth double and coins worth triple.

I have spent 36 hours playing this game. I have been able to buy only one skin using coins. I don’t get why despite having spent 30 dollars on this game I feel like I have to grind more than most free-to-play titles just for some colors. As a casual bronze player who has lost far more matches than I’ve won, it’s very discouraging to realize I’m only getting a pittance for my time and effort. I’d love to put more time into this game, but it just doesn’t feel worth it.

I upvoted, and I wanna expose visually the difference in Lobby VS Casuals gains. You basically gain 50% of everything in lobbies compared to Casuals.
There’s an unnofficial app on Android that can show you your stats and amount of games played per character (I assume it’s nowhere in the game since couldn’t find it there).
My Etalus is level 25 with less than 60 games, because I mainly played him in Casuals at the time. I also remember playing Orcane a lot in the first few months on Casuals, then dumping him. Meanwhile, all other characters have a comparatively high amount of games for their level, because 90% of my time otherwise is spent in lobbies with a couple friends.

Maybe this is the minority opinion, but I like the rate coins/exp are acquired. As an engineer/potential whale who solo mains a character, I generally spend less money supporting the game that I would like to. Coins more than fund emotes, so I’m only really buying skins for my character and stage skins (and even some of those I end up spending coins on.
More cool universal effects in the shiyp would be a nice excuse to buy something that I think has a lower chance if going mostly/completely unused.
Personally I don’t mind current coin gain I just think it’s long to get lvl 100 skins as the roster size expands
I think the reality of the situation is that the development team needs to pay 20+ developer salaries to keep a steady flow of new content that we want. Even with that, they choose to give ALL new dlc characters to everyone for free, which is UNHEARD of for this genre of game. The only revenue stream they have is from cosmetics.
You may not be able to afford buying cosmetics, but (very nearly) every cosmetic is available to purchase with currency earned in game. You earn more of that currency by playing online and increasing player engagement for the community.
I personally am happy paying $20 a month to fund the upcoming fun for all update, and future console releases and story mode.
