enable couch co-op 2v2s#510

Me and my partner want to play doubles with a couple we know that lives about an hour away. We can not seem to set this up using our two computers. When we create a lobby to play each pc only accepts one player. Is there a way to do this that I am missing? If it is not a current feature it would be nice to be able to do in the future.

I’m probably naïve and uninformed, but I don’t quite understand how this is such a difficult feature to implement. Couch play is possible. Online connecting through a server is possible. What’s the reason both combined takes so much work to implement?

It’s because the game’s online system assigns a client to a player slot. If you try to use a second controller, it’s still the same client and goes to the same player slot. The devs have talked several times on stream about how they’d have to redo a lot of the online code to make having two players share the same game client possible.
